Hi Everyone! I know this is really early, but I thought this would give everyone a chance to make plans & start saving pennies for the trip.

The 2008 shoot will be held May 3rd, at Schwenkes Gun Range (4407 FM 1069) in Aransas Pass, Texas (35 miles SE of Corpus Christi. The cost will be $15.00 per person.

Schwenkes is a private gun range, that charges its members $50.00/year. I met with Mr. Schwenkes today, he said since “I seem like a nice lady”, he would allow us to use his range. He also said if I would give him the time we will be there, he would close the range to his members. He smiled as he said the following, “This range is for members only, some may complain, but I own the darn thing and can make up the rules as I go along.”. I am thinking 10:00 – 2:00. Let me know if you think it should be longer or shorter.

There are only two rules set in stone; 1) pick up your brass and deposit it in a tub at the end of the shooting area, and 2) when shooting at the rifle range aim at the mounds, there are cows in the area and he doesn’t want them dead! The maximum target distance on the rifle range is 200 yards.

For our Memorial Shoot attendees that do not shoot, there are lots of tourists stuff for you to do so you want be bored at the range. The U.S.S. Lexington tour is awesome, Padre Island (Port Aransas) is always fun to cruise and Rockport is right around the corner.

Food & fun will follow at Deer Camp South after the shoot.

The trailer at DCS will sleep about 8ish people, if anyone wants to sleep there. If you are a camping type person, you can pitch a tent in the yard or if you have a camper, you can park it in the yard. For those that like luxury lodging, there are several hotels in Aransas Pass and the surrounding area (Rockport, Port Aransas and Ingleside) and Corpus Christi is 35 miles away. To get to Port Aransas you will have to ride the ferry ~ a whopping 5 minute trip (the wait in line may be a bit longer). MAJOR BIT OF ADVICE - - Choose a major hotel/motel chain when you pick your lodging!

The closer it gets to the date of the shoot, the more I will go into details.

Just cut~n~pastin' from the FR thread.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thoughts of the 2008 shoot have been in the back of my mind today, after chatting with my dear FRiend Froufrou. Finally, while preparing dinner those thoughts popped out.
Since we will be on the Gulf Coast, sea food will be the main menu ~ shrimp, oysters and fish. I am going to try to convince my good friend Sally to come down and make her famous gumbo.
I am also thinking instead of everyone bringing something I can pick up all the stuff that is needed and those that attend can pay me back. (I would think it should not be more than $10.00 a person). I can also store all the left over plates, napkins & utensils for the next years shoot.
Exceptions for bringing stuff would be Tijeras_Slim’s salsa, philman_36 potato salad, and Eastforker’s catfish.
Let me know your thoughts . . .
You're doing great plan'n the TCM Shoots!
This venue will be closer to my birthplace of Kingsville, than I have been since, and look forward to the visit.
Hope the weather is better this time around!
My airline tickets and car rental are done. I'll be in the area Friday evening. LUV W is still shopping for her tickets.
Laurenmarlowe is still undecided and Mylife should be there. Ms.Behavin wants to be there but has to work some things out.
We were thinking of getting rooms in Rockport. Does anyone know the area or have recomendations?
I doubt my buddy is coming. Sad
For those of us lacking in pistols and rifles, what ammo should we be purchasing to take advantage of the yours?
I was counting on bringing some 40 S&W. Any other recommendations?
Does anyone know if the range has a clay thrower or can we bring a hand thrower?
We will inquire on the shotgun issues this weekend.
It is kinda funny as I am a lousy shotgun shooter. My Vendors try to get me to shoot with them but some have 10k shotguns. I drive a 7k Jeep to work.
I just don't go with them.
I look forward to the shoot!
Tom
Some day I want to learn to shoot sporting clays.
When I get some free time, I'm going to take lessons and go to the range a couple times a month.
Probably around 2045, I'll get the time.
If I have room I will bring a laser printer. If not, we can do it at the library just a couple of miles away.
